Introduction
This Strategic Plan has been created in line with our own company Environmental and Sustainability Policy, aligned with Governmental Strategies, targets and legislation surrounding the requirements to perform business and production activities ethically, legally, and responsibly with environmental impact at the heart of all our business processes.
Current Activities, Environmental and Sustainability Concerns
This document outlines where we are now, the targets that we have towards net zero and outlines other areas where we are using natural resources and having an impact on the environment, as well as the people affected by them, such as employees, suppliers, customers, and the general public RH Fibreboard (and Goonvean Holdings Ltd) have a number of documents, policies and procedures that cover areas around sustainability which are both externally and internally audited (e.g the quality manual and the company handbook – which also includes equal opportunities, anti-bullying and harassment policy, data protection and GDPR policy, environmental policy and the health and safety policy).
We are a Five Star Audited business (by the Sheet Plant Association) which covers aspects of our everyday business activities (such as health and safety and social/business compliance), and an FSC® accredited business which focuses on the sustainability of our raw materials, ensuring they are from responsible sources. FSC also audit us for Core Labour requirements, ensuring we perform duties ethically in terms of employment, antislavery, child labour, and equal opportunities for our workforce and suppliers
Sustainability Projects
A company presentation ‘Protecting Our Environment is available that outlines our current environmental efforts around our products, factory processes, office processes and suppliers containing 32 key areas, such as using Eco Inks, 100% recycled materials, energy-saving equipment, running a paperless office and ensuring all our material suppliers are FSC accredited. If you would like a copy of this, please contact Hello@rhfibreboard.co.uk or contact the office/your account manager.
Equally, we welcome on-site visits to see these efforts in progress.
Pathway to New Zero – The Paris Agreement
RH Fibreboard is aligning our pathway to net zero with the Paris Agreement, which sets out a global framework to avoid dangerous climate change by limiting global warming to well below 2 degrees Celsius at 1.5 degrees Celsius. The Paris Agreement has been signed and agreed by most countries/world leaders and is a legally binding international treaty signed in 2016.
To ensure the 1.5-degree target is hit means a commitment for businesses to become net zero by 2050, and to reduce emissions by 45%, by the year 2030.
These will be our published targets and will likely be based on measurable Science-based targets (SBTIs), such as carbon emission reduction, until (or unless) policy or legislation brings change to the measurement system.
Short-Term Targets, 2023-2025
Medium Term Targets, 2025-2030
Long Term Targets
Note: Medium and long terms targets will be published and added to when the Environmental Management System and the Sustainability Partner are in place (as published in the Short-Term Targets) and these strategies are set with these organisations/employers/consultants’ help and advice. Until such time, our audited processes and policies including our current Environmental Policy will govern our activities.
